My Problem with New Year's Resolutions
(this is a bonus post, since I'll only be posting every two weeks for now)
The problem I have with the New Year.
It's just another day.
Nothing is going to change just because it's the New Year. The funny thing is, I used to think that because we added one more number to the year, that it made it so much more than it really is. It's just one more day.
It's today. It's just the tomorrow of yesterday. Just another day.
It's what changes inside YOU and ME that really matters. Until, either the pain of today is too much to handle, or the reward of tomorrow is so big, that you can't handle it anymore. That you just have to get up and do something or you'll burst. Our attitude needs to change before anything with these "New Year's Resolutions" takes place.
Definition of resolution
- firmness of purpose
- a decision or determination
- a resolve: to make a firm resolution to do something. i.e. Her resolution to clear her parents' name allowed her no other focus in life.
Wow! She couldn't focus on anything else because she resolved to get this one thing done.
Definition of goal
- the result or achievement toward which effort is directed
(from dictionary.com)
The mistake I make with my goals, every time, is that I write these really awesome general statements that anyone could use. My goals haven't been personal.
They haven't been mine.
'I want to be more spiritual.' A lot of people want that.
I never asked the most important question there is when setting a goal or resolution. What steps do I need to take to accomplish that? What do I need to do each day or week?
'I want to read in my scriptures each day, preferably before the kids get up, until I feel the Spirit inside me.' There we go.
Your turn. What do you want your life to look like? No, really. How do you want to be remembered? If you could write your eulogy, what would you want it to say?
Start writing it right now! Make it real, by sharing your life vision in the comments.

Coming Up: I'm starting a challenge I heard about from Jon Acuff, called The Empty Shelf Challenge. Just want to share a pdf template I'm making so you can 'put' your ebooks, Kindle books, or audio books you read, on the shelf, too!
