Niche Sites W/Google's Keyword Tool - The Right Way
If you've ever thought about going to the Google Keyword Tool to find a great niche keyword to make your millions online, then there are a few things to remember.
Use [Exact] Match
When you go to the keyword tool, on the left side there is a "Match Types" option. Deselect the current option and only select Exact match. This will make sure you're getting only the results for that exact keyword phrase and not other keyword phrases that include your phrase.
What I mean:
Let's say you have the most awesome keyword phrase "great googley moogley" (we're pretending here). The Broad match shows that the term is searched 3,600 times each month! Maybe you found your million dollar phrase. But then you look at Exact match and there's a disappointing dash (-) that means nobody searches for that phrase.
The Broad match takes into account any phrase that contains the words you entered. So like all of these phrases: "happy great googley moogley", "great googley moogley toogley", "oh my great googley moogley", and "master of the great googley moogley". The Exact match only shows you the number of times that exact phrase was search - "great googley moogley".
Sign Into Your Google Account
This will show a little more data versus not signing in. The keyword tool used to have a great little indicator for each phrase which it showed information for. This bar showed how competitive a keyword was. Now it only shows Low, Medium, or High. So you may need to login to see the cost per click that keyword would be if you were going to do a PPC campaign, and then use that to determine how competitive a phrase might really be. (Lower means less competitive.)
Don't Do It
Building a niche site is really pointless and from my experience doesn't bring in a lot of money for the extreme amount of time it takes to get listed on the first page of the search engines. Also, anyone that knows what they're doing with SEO can instantly knock you off the top and crush your income.
